Developed the UK’s largest training programme with 60+ Patient Educators in Psychiatric Education at Derbyshire Healthcare Foundation Trust culminating in:

National guidance – RCPsych guide on Patient/Carer Involvement in Training (2021)
Launch of Expert Patient Programme Toolkit at House of Lords in 2025

Chair, Association of University Teachers in Psychiatry (AUTP), a national charity (2019-21) Provided a national platform for patient/carer teachers as also for Allied Healthcare for e.g. nurse educators in Psychiatry.

Shaped mental health services nationally

As National Clinical Adviser, helped develop national community mental healthcare framework (2019-21), a key part of long-term NHS plan which led to >£3 bn funding for community services
Lobbied to secure the largest number of additional training postsin Psychiatry

Supporting Service delivery

As a BIPA member: a) Lobbied RCPsych for initiating Diaspora Committee in the College; b) inclusion of SAS doctors in various College committees,
Created simulation training for trainers to address Differential Attainment of overseas trainees. External evaluation shows positive impact, now commissioned nationally (2019-22) lauded by the GMC as an example of good practice

Pioneered simulation in Psychiatric Training

Embedded vicarious experiential learning in Undergraduate training using films

Foundation Training Programme Director (2015) – developed the country’s first mandatory training programme in Psychiatry for all foundation trainees in Trent

During COVID (2020/2021) Pioneered online psychiatric clinical teaching with Patient Educators to thousands of students across the world to ensure uninterrupted training in Psychiatry

Trustee for Doctors in Distress 2020-present
As Trustee, Doctors In Distress developed national well-being strategy
Developed/delivered pioneering Dr1in4 intervention (2018-21) for >400 staff to address stigma surrounding mental illness; positive feedback has led to funding for dissemination nationally (2022)
RUN WALK TALK initiative
Contributed to the development of College guidance on risk mitigation for Black, Asian and minority ethnic staff in mental healthcare settings, produced in response to the disproportionate numbers of these healthcare worker deaths due to COVID-19
